My name is Ruvic and I thought for a long time I was the only one

My name is Ruvic, derived from my parents name Ruben and Victoria. The Ru from my dad and vic from my mom. For a long time I thought I was the only one with that name. Self-centered, egotistical, self-absorbed… call it what you will. As a child, I hated it. No one else shared my name. Sure it was unique and a lot of people found it interesting but unique and interesting weren’t always good especially when you are different already. What I mean is, at the time, I went to a school where I was a part of the minority, all factors usually equaled weird among other names. You know how mean children could be.

Rubik's Cube Puzzle

Lady Flora, Goddess of Blossoms and Flowers

People suggested to ease my misfortune was that maybe it was European or maybe a version of the famous Rubik’s Cube but really it was just an idea my dad had to incorporate his name to my moms, plain, simple and weird, to me that is. Who names their child in that manner? I could have just been named after a grandmother, that I could have appreciated; because my maternal grandmother’s name is Flora. The term "flora" comes from Latin language Flora, the goddess of plants, flowers, and fertility in Roman mythology. Wow, a goddess. My paternal grandmother’s name is Felicidad, derived if I’m not mistaken from feliz which means happy in Spanish. I could have easily been Flora Felicidad, It seems more meaningful and worldly, you know.

door hang my mom made
Going to souvenir or novelty stores to buy a key chain or those license plates, mugs, or any souvenirs with your name was always kind of painful, looking painstakingly through the piles and piles of personalized souvenirs not finding my name that I knew I would never find. I did manage to get a wooden key chain with my name, it was made to order for a school fundraising. YES! Finally! Then my mom, oh what our mother’s would do for us, made me a DIY door hang with my name and it even had a little ballet shoes off to the side which was my absolute passion then.
My name grew on me as the years went by. Started to believe it was special because no one I knew or anyone else knew of another person with the same name. And anything I had made with my name was indeed special because it was never readily available always made to order kind of special things. I AM SPECIAL. I AM UNIQUE. I finally accepted the fact and I loved it. ;D

Ruvic charm my mom had made for me.
Let us fast forward to recent years. I am strolling along a mall and I see someone’s resume lying around and I look to see whose and by God, it was by a Ruvic, certainly not me, can’t remember her last name any more but the first name  she uses is my name as well. OMG, I’m freaking out. Out of the many years I’ve ever lived, it was the first time I have ever known another Ruvic in my life. It would have been great if we had kept in touch but oh well. The only other Ruvic I knew I lost.  Then the advent of Facebook emerges. When I first got on Facebook, a couple of years back from today, I was the only Ruvic. Then a year or two later other Ruvics appeared usually from Europe, lately, other Ruvics from the Philippines are resurfacing. I’m not too good with changes maybe because I've been living under a rock all my life so now I have to deal with learning to love the fact that I am no longer the 1 and only Ruvic but rather one of many beautiful one. ;D.
scrawny disproportionate legs
large forehead enough for a 747 jet

how about a retangle for a shape

Although... I am the one and only Ruvic Esteban I know of... at least for now anyways. ;D

Embrace your uniqueness and individuality.

Would you happen to know anyone that shares my name? Please, invite them here to my blog. I would love nothing more than to meet other people that share my name.
